Get another pet, they said. It’ll be so fun, they said.
Whether you’re new to the multi-pet life or you just feel like your pets are running circles around you and you can barely keep up...here are five easy tips for managing a multiple pet household.
Everyone needs space sometimes, pets included. This can be applied to meals, sleep, even toys.
To prevent pets from fighting over food, separate feeding locations or spread out food bowls so each pet is taken care of. If you have dogs and cats, consider feeding your feline higher off the ground so Fido doesn’t grab her food on accident. Likewise, spreading beds or litter boxes around the house will keep pets from feeling like they need to compete for space.
If you’ve recently added a new pet to your home and you’re wondering why your first fur baby isn’t best friends with them yet, just be patient. Don’t rush it. Think back to the first day at a new school when you were younger, when you didn’t know anyone and were trying to get your bearings. This is very much the same thing. All in due time!
We talked about how to prevent pets from competing over toys and beds and food, now we need to talk about them fighting over you.
When introducing new pets into the home, it’s crucial to spread the love. Ensuring each animal receives some extra love and cuddles will keep your original fur baby from feeling forgotten (or jealous), and will also make your new pet feel loved and welcome.
